Joe first started playing piano at the age of 8. He took the classic "old lady' piano lessons, learning to play simple versions of the classics. As he grew older he started playing drums and other instruments, including studying the bassoon for 6 years. As he entered high school,he went back to the piano and started playing in rock and roll bands, even though his first love was jazz. He played in nightclubs as a teenager and basically learned his trade just by "doin' it." He lived in Seattle in the mid 70's and had a stint with jazz guitarist Jimmy James. While in Seattle he backed comedians Pete Barbutti and George Gables. He moved to the Portland area in the mid '80s and in 1989 formed a company, called the Works Music Productions, which specializes in MIDI file production(http://www.miditunes.com). Joe joined the Cubs in 1994 and most of the arrangements on both CDs are his. As well as his work with the Cubs,Joe produces and arranges and plays in the Portland area.
